Kids love to play! And it’s important for them to get their energy out in a safe and fun way. Perhaps you are thinking about building a playground for them in your backyard. That is a great idea, as long as it’s created with safety in mind.
There are good resources available that can guide you in making a safe playground. One thing that is important is to anchor any equipment down properly. This will ensure that there is no tipping over while in use. Make sure any pinch points and sharp edges on equipment are covered. Many injuries can occur if not. It is recommended that swings should be at least two feet apart from each other.
Providing a soft landing surface under the equipment will help decrease the risk of injury should a kid fall off a swing or the slide. You can cover the ground with a few inches of wood chips, sand, or rubber mulch. Or you can place rubber mats or tiles under the equipment.
Regularly check the equipment for wear and tear or deterioration. Make any repairs as soon as possible.
