When the temperatures drop, the heat needs to go up. That also means your heating bill rises. What are a few things that you can do to keep warm while saving some money?

First off, keep your warm air inside. Seal up any cracks near doors and windows. Consider winterizing your windows if they are older. If you have ceiling fans, adjust them so they spin clockwise, and set them to low speed. This will help draw the warm air that has floated to the ceiling back down into the room. If you have hard surface floors, use area rugs to help keep the heat in.

Another tip is in regard to your windows. During the day, if it’s sunny, open your blinds and curtains to allow the sunlight to stream in and warm the rooms naturally. At nighttime, though, cover them up so heat doesn’t escape. And a simple yet helpful suggestion is to dress warmer inside. Rather than cranking up your heat and wearing shorts and a t-shirt, it’s time to make use of those sweatpants, sweatshirts, and warm socks.
